Don’t Look Back

Being comfortable for too long in a season can be detrimental to our spiritual walk. When we are familiar with comfortability, we become complacent in a season, and mindset that we should have graduated from. We delay the process in our lives for God to do something new, and we self-sabotage our purpose. A person who gets too comfortable in a season that expired experiences droughts, unnecessary hardships, financial burdens, and double-mindedness. Their experiences reflect their lack of faith in God, and their stubbornness to submit to His perfect will. The Israelites were people who had become too familiar with being enslaved by the Egyptians. They wanted to be free physically from their past as slaves, but mentally they did not want to endure the process it would take to live out their freedom. The same tongue they used to cry out to God for deliverance was the same tongue they used to complain against Him (doublemindedness), even after He proved to them that He would bless them and bring them to a promised land flowing with milk and honey (Exodus 3:17).

God repeatedly declared fruitfulness over them yet, many of them never got a chance to dwell in it due to their heart posture. God cannot move in a person’s life who wants everything to always be the same. They do not want to fight for their breakthrough, pray and fast for their healing and deliverance, and complain against Him whenever He attempts to get them out of their comfort zones to elevate them. Uncomfortability gives birth to longsuffering, perseverance, resilience, and endurance, which helps us pursue our purpose. God knows that for us to be sustained while living for Him, we have to know how to handle pressure and frustration. If we do not learn how to manage uncomfortable learning curves in our lives, we will not be able to master our current season, which will lead us to repeat cycles just like the Israelites. The Israelites wandered for forty years in the wilderness since they were indecisive about trusting God. Their journey to the promised land was only supposed to take a few days; however, their unwillingness to yield to the new thing God wanted to do delayed them.

It’s okay to be shaken when God speaks to you about the major moves He has planned for you but, it’s not okay to run from Him because you feel uncomfortable. Trust that even though He is taking you to bigger than you could have ever imagined, He will not let you face it alone. Perhaps you are the first entrepreneur in your family, and you feel overwhelmed, be still and let God show you how to work your way through it. He will send you mentors and coaches who will equip you. Maybe you are the bloodline breaker in your family, you’re different, and you don’t know how to deal with all of the spiritual attacks. Pray and ask God for guidance, purchase books and watch videos on how to combat spiritual warfare. If you are called to a new position on your job and feel underqualified, remember God qualifies the called. He knows you are more than capable of succeeding.

God knew why He called you out of comfortability. It’s time to stop looking back and for you to accept the mantle on your life. God says, “Forget the former things do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV.

Be Encouraged,
