Don’t Miss God in 2026

“But he knows every step I take. When he has tested me, I’ll come out as pure as gold.”

Job 23:10 (NRV).

As I reflected with the Lord this week, I was reminded of the statement my life coach shared during my counseling session, “the weight in the waiting.” It all came together while meditating on the book of Exodus, specifically chapter 32. The Israelites, in their waiting, made a consequential decision because they were weary of the wait and its weight. Waiting on God is largely a matter of our own responsibility. It is based on our willingness to yield, to surrender, to allow Him to purify, refine, transform, and renew. And yes, it does come with a weight, but one that he has given us all power and authority to carry. (Matthew 11:28-30). However, if we take our eyes off of Him and put our trust in our own methods, we will carry a familiar weight: fear, confusion, double-mindedness, anger, discouragement, disappointment, soul weariness, and more. The enemy's bait is to make you think that the wait has everything to do with God, failing to keep His word, but God is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23:19). The purpose is to align our hearts with His, to make us like Jesus. When Moses went up to the mountain as the Israelites waited below.

God gave Moses the commandments and instructions for the people to follow because he desires to dwell among them. God planned to consecrate them so he could be with them every step of the way on their journey to the promised land. “So I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar and will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests. Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God. They will know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God” Exodus 29:44-46 (NIV). Yet, the Israelites' mistrust caused them to take the gold God blessed them with in Egypt and use it to create a false idol, a golden calf. They replaced God’s weight in waiting for a false one.

God’s weight is easy and light, requiring that we serve Him only and obey his commandments. False weight mandates that we conjure up solutions that ultimately create a bigger mess. Moses came down the mountain, and that night, many of them were slaughtered, missing God and their promise by cursing their souls with pride and rebellion. In 2026, our eyes must be on God. We must submit ourselves to His weight, to follow His will. So that we aren’t fooled by the weight of this world and the weight of sin. How do the Israelites go from saying yes to God’s command and, in the blink of an eye, ask Aaron to make them gods who will go before them? The weight of their past. In my last blog, I shared how they got comfortable, and in Exodus 32, we can also see that they struggled with the wait and weight of their time in Egypt: 400 years of enslavement (the wait), and the torment, brutality, and bullying they endured from their enemies (the weight). The weight they failed to acknowledge blurred their vision from understanding the “wait” from God as he directed Moses up the mountain. What are your weights? What burdens do you still need to acknowledge so you don’t miss God in 2026?

It is my prayer that you take some time to deal with the weight as you wait on Him. He is faithful to hear your heart and mend your wounds.

Happy New Year!!!!
