overcome comfort & complacency

“For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them” (Proverbs 1:32).

Most Christians never step foot into their promised land. It has nothing to do with their lack of faith but everything to do with their fixed attitudes of comfort and complacency. To be fixated on something is to be obsessively attached to it. An unhealthy amount of fixation on anything other than God can be toxic and detrimental to an individual because it is rooted in idolatry. In Matthew 22:37, “Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” The only rightful place of God in our hearts must be King, Lord, and Savior; anything else is an idol (false god). Anything else attempts to dethrone him from having full authority (rightful place) in our lives and will lead us to destruction. Calamity always falls on the complacent, the intoxicated, the one who chases after signs, lacks wisdom, refuses to arise and pray, and relies on their flesh, emotions, and people. The one who sleeps in and is in love with slumber, which keeps them from doing the work of God. It’s the ones who hear the sounding of the alarm (figuratively and literally) but will not move in obedience. Although we can point fingers, we know that we all have our gardens to tend to and that we are not perfect. The solution here is not blame. It is accountability, discernment, and a willingness to turn away. I believe the last two months of this year require us to push to another level of sacrifice. It could be sacrificing our emotions, waking up at 4 a.m. to pray, fasting weekly, giving birth to the idea the Lord gave us some time ago, preparing for transition, etc. This is not the hour to compare our lives to others, nor the time to compete with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Rather a time for us to be who God called us to be now more than ever. You may have stood in your way or allowed others to throughout this year, but it can end today. You can make a decision that you will win for the remainder of the year. Your next is solely dependent on you because nothing is impossible for God…let that sink in.

Keep fighting. I’m praying for you!

*Happy November*
